Thought for the day: 1809 American frontiersman, Kit Carson, was born. The last words he uttered when he died were “Wish I had time for just one more bowl of chili.”
Thailand just extended its “State of Emergency” for three months in Bangkok and 18 other provinces. The State of Emergency was first declared during the Red Shirt protests and the administrative mechanism set up to deal with the emergency was dominated by the military. What this means is basically the military retains control of the governing institutions of the country at least until the new military chain of command is installed in September.
I remain in Paradise by the Sea watching the afternoon monsoon storms roll in off of the gulf of Thailand. Usually the sun is brightly shining on the water when suddenly the islands on the horizon disappear in a curtain of black. For an hour or so the water still sparkles blue and green while lightning flashes in the dark cloud, then the rain comes.
Today is BBQ day. I am looking forward to consuming my weekly ration of burnt flesh.
